How do I get a loan for a private party sale of a boat, RV, or trailer?

Private Party RV Sale

Getting a loan for a private party purchase through Rock Solid Funding is simple. Here’s how it works:

  1. Apply for Financing
Start by submitting your online application with basic information about the unit you’re looking for — such as type, approximate year, and estimated value.

  2. Receive Conditional Approval
Once we review your application, we’ll issue a Conditional Approval, which outlines your approved loan amount, rate, and term. This approval typically remains valid for 45–60 days, though it can vary depending on the deal.

  3. Find Your Unit
When you find a unit you’re interested in, contact the seller and notify your Loan Officer. We will also reach out to the seller directly to request sale details, including unit photos (VIN or Hull ID number, engine serial number, hour meter and/or odometer), and/or other documentation.

  4. Submit Seller Documentation
Provide your Rock Solid Funding Loan Officer with the seller’s contact information and required documents. We’ll request more detailed documentation from the seller to verify ownership, title and/or registration, and any lien payoff information (if applicable).

  5. Inspect the Unit
Before any funds are released, the buyer must personally inspect the unit to confirm it meets expectations and matches the description provided.

  6. Complete a Limited Power of Attorney
You (and your seller) will be asked to complete an electronic Limited Power of Attorney (POA) with a live notary, online. This document gives us permission to handle the title transfer after the sale is finalized, and only for this transaction. This helps us speed up the title transfer with your DMV. Some states may also require a physical version of the Power of Attorney. We’ll let you know if that applies to you. If you want more information on why we need this, we also have a short 1-minute video here that explains further.
  7. Finalize and Fund the Deal
Once the inspection is complete and all documents are verified, we’ll issue payment to the seller once all funding conditions are met. Funds can be disbursed by business check, ACH (direct deposit), or wire transfer, depending on the seller’s preference. Checks typically arrive within 1–3 business days after funding approval.

  8. Complete the Title Transfer
Our Title Department will handle the title transfer and ensure the lender’s lien is perfected — making the process smooth and secure for both you, and the seller. We’ll take care of everything we can for you. Just keep in mind that in some states, the customer is still required to visit the DMV in person to finish the title transfer.

Tip: If the first unit doesn’t work out, your Conditional Approval typically remains valid for another purchase within the approval window [45-60 days] — so you can continue shopping without restarting the entire loan process.
